MATTHEW SIMPA 2B edit

Welcome! I’m Matthew Simpa, a storyteller at heart and a creative soul with a passion for blending the worlds of literature, cinema, and education.

My writing journey began in 2020 with The Reversal Filmmakers: Unsung Heroes of the Nollywood Revolution—a memoir and tribute to the pioneers of Nigeria’s film industry. Since then, I’ve explored diverse genres, penning thought-provoking works such as The Issachar Principle: Discernment for Today and Turn Your Valley of Baca into a Well (Christian nonfiction), The Birthday Gift (novella), You’re Right, You’re Wrong (poetry), and novels like Outside the Box, The Ark Protocol, Adinoyi the Liberator, and Unbroken. My unpublished projects, including Juliet, Unwavering Faith, City of the Mad, and Tiwa & Tasha, are testaments to my enduring love for storytelling.

———— Beyond the page, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to Nigeria’s film industry since 1986. I began my filmmaking career as an assistant director at Meshfilms Ltd., where I worked on iconic films such as Jagunlabi and Iji Aye—milestones that heralded Nollywood’s golden age. Over the years, I’ve written and directed numerous screenplays, including The Legal Wife, Duplicate, and Stepfather. In 1995, my journey took a transformative turn when I answered a divine call to focus on directing evangelical films. To date, I’ve produced over 20 impactful titles, such as Osuwon Aye, Aja Aye, and Valle de Baca. My recent work, Ito Okunrin, reflects my unwavering passion for storytelling. As an educator, I’ve dedicated myself to nurturing the next generation of creatives. I’ve served as Director of Studies and Head of the Editing Department at Aries Gold Film Institute and Graig Phillips College of Technology. My expertise in screenwriting, directing, producing, and video editing has also enriched television productions like Blackdrum Creative Hub and Real Estate Connect. I’m a Fellow of the Ebedi International Writers’ Residency and a proud member of the Association of Nigerian Authors. My work is driven by a commitment to blend faith, culture, and innovation, leaving a lasting impact on Nigeria’s creative landscape.
